“I won’t save you. But I’ll help you save yourself.”
Sara Bishop was raised by her mother at The Gathering since eight years old. She remembers a bit of what life was before the Gathering but so many years living this life of what she can and can’t do; it make it hard for Sara to see the true light. Pastor Carter is the leader and he has a plan for his followers. They all must prepared for the awakening.
“Perhaps he wasn’t a wolf amongst the sheep. Because I found myself liking him. Cautiously. Warily. And when he smiled, I smiled back.”
Bastian Scott is conflicted; he only ever wanted to helped his brother so when he had to make a decision to stay with him he didn’t think twice about it. However; once inside the gathering he knew he must do anything to get out of that place no matter what. He never imagined to feel something towards Sara.
“Maybe one day you’ll figure out that lying to yourself is almost worse than lying to someone else.”
I felt the love connection could have been stronger between this two but I still liked it a lot. The story is told from dual point of view; I found I enjoyed Bastian’s point of view much better. He wanted to save his brother and Sara too; but he felt powerless at the same time. I loved his words though and how he acted in every situation.
“The world isn’t all bad, Sara. It really isn’t. There’s so much good. So much beauty. And you’re missing all of it,” he said softly.”
The last twenty percent of the book I felt like I couldn’t breathe. The panic and excitement was so much, I literally felt like I was in one of those dreams where someone is chasing you and you are trying to run as fast as you can hahaha. Sara and Bastian are bound to save the brother and desperate to get free and the events happening at the end of the book will leave you breathless.
I am really looking forward to see what is next for these characters in the conclusion. Readers who enjoy religious stories will find this book appealing.
