CC’s Review ~ Seduced in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #2) by CJ Roberts

Title: Seduced in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #2)

Author: CJ Roberts

Genre: Dark Erotica/Suspense

Type: Book 2 of a Series

5 Stars!!

In Seduced in the Dark, the story continues without interruption and with an interesting shift in how the timeline is presented. As Livvie Ruiz tells her story in the present tense, she is distraught over the precarious circumstances separating her from Caleb. Not be able to get a firm grasp on the current situation is tense, especially when the alternating perspective shifts back to the past. This unsettling tone enhances the level of danger and fear at what is to come.

“He’d done this to me. He’d made me afraid. He’d made me need him. And if he thought he was suddenly going to abandon me and clear what was left of his shriveled conscience, he was sadly mistaken.”

Caleb is left with limited choices, as he has the option to proceed with the plan of revenge or take a different course of action that also has serious repercussions. Feeling a tremendous sense of loyalty to the person that gave Caleb a second chance is overwhelming, yet for the first time, Caleb is beginning to feel other emotions he’s trying to process. Knowing the level of manipulation Caleb employs to influence Livvie’s behavior is enough to make him second guess the authenticity of what she feels, however, it doesn’t change his feelings.

“I’ve been going like this a long time – manipulating people to get my way. That’s why you think you love me. Because I’ve broken you down and built you back up to believe it.”

In the short time Livvie was in Caleb’s possession, her goal had always been to survive and escape. With the way she and Caleb met, it seemed to strengthen Livvie’s hope at times but it also put her at a disadvantage. As they continue on this path, true feelings become clear and while trying to battle his demons, Caleb punishes himself yet stakes his claim in a way that is foretelling.

“Does it feel good, Pet?” he asked in a voice dripping with arrogance. I didn’t care. I nodded fervently and looked for his mouth. He let his lips dance just above mine, all the while keeping his rhythm against my clit. “I want to hear you say it. Tell me if feels good. Tell me how much you want me to make that little pussy of yours come.”

With betrayal, action and kinkery, Caleb’s hand is forced and his reaction sets in motion a series of events that cannot be reversed. Trying to keep his promise to Livvie has always been paramount, and in doing so, the inevitable must occur in order to move forward.

“Be smart. Fight the battles you can win and accept the ones you can’t. That’s how you survive.”

To say I devoured this book would be an understatement. The multiple levels of dimension in the character development and plot kept me riveted. Livvie’s determination and vulnerability made her such an intriguing character. The dichotomy between naïve Livvie and captive Livvie was a constant reminder of Caleb’s duality of kindness and violence. That ever-present contrast creates incredible chemistry between these two characters. I admired Livvie’s tenacity while with Caleb and when apart.

In addition, the focus on Caleb and his past is absolutely fascinating. As the darkest parts of the human condition are revealed, the need for revenge is compounded. Caleb’s decisions weren’t always the right ones but he adhered to a code for a reason. Ultimately, the progression for these characters involved pain, redemption and strength and I loved the ending.

This series delves into dark subject matter in a complex way that shows how people can process the worst of situations but still have the ability to heal and love. I highly recommend this duet!

Liz’s Review~Pretty New Doll~by Ker Dukey and K. Webster

“I have work to do. Fun to have. Revenge to inflict. Dolls to punish.”

To say that I am not completely addicted to all things dolls would be the understatement of the century. Ker Dukey and K. Webster have wowed me once again with the third addition to the Pretty Little Dolls Series. Benny is back in Pretty New Doll, and he is sicker and more twisted than ever!

“I’m the master of my own story, and the master of his.”

A few years have passed since Benny held his precious doll in his arms. After losing her to another, he has found himself desperate. With a new ally by his side, Benny has the power and the means to seek out something new. When he finds another doll more precious than the first, he will stop at nothing to have her.

“You can’t burn the devil silly.”

Told in multiple POV, Pretty New Doll offers a thrilling twisted dark read with a complex plot, multi-layered characters and heart stopping action. As each moment of the plot unfolds, the intensity grows. Benny is ruthless and yet, a true anti-hero that I cannot help but love. The new characters that are introduced offer more conflict and the brutality of the war waging inside of Benny continue to wage on. The stakes are high for these characters to survive. I wish I could say more, but this is just one of those reads you are best jumping in and enjoying the ride!

I highly recommend Pretty New Doll to any and all dark romance readers. This series has held me captive from the first installment, and with each book, I only want more! Benny is the most complex character, and I am truly desperate to see how this is going to turn out. Be prepared because the cliffy in this one is INTENSE! I cannot wait for more BENNY and his dolls!

Ride or Die #2

A Devil’s Highwaymen MC Novel

Love can either destroy you, or bring you back to life.

Dom, Casa & Harlow

Casa only cares for two things in this life: his club—the Devil’s Highwaymen—and sex. That is until he meets Harlow. She’s feisty, passionate, and doesn’t fall for his usual charms. She’s perfect for him…but she belongs to someone else.

Harlow is broken; she has been for a long time. With nowhere to go, and worse, no one to go to, she’s become a clubslut for the West Side Bangers. That is until a chance meeting with her old friend and former lover, Dom, brings their worlds colliding together once more.

Dom is on a one-way train to hell; the guilt of losing his soulmate is killing him—but he can’t tell anyone about it. That is until he finds a brief respite from his suffering in the form of Harlow, the woman whose heart he once broke.

With all three set on their own self-destructive paths, they’ve only got one chance to make things right—but only if they can learn to forgive, and then to love again.

The funny thing about love is, it’s both painless and painful, and not even death can end the suffering.

Classic Motorcycle Seen From The Ground At Sunset

“Fine.” I slung my backpack over both shoulders and climbed on behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist tightly so I didn’t fall off. He smelled good, like smoke and oil and something musky. I hadn’t noticed before because I’d been too upset, but I couldn’t miss it now, and my nipples grew hard. I just hoped he couldn’t feel them through the back of his cut. I rested my cheek against his back, breathing him in. Finally feeling safe.

“Gonna have to hold on tighter than that, girl,” Casa breathed out. He reach down and took my hands before pulling my arms tighter around him. “That’s better.”

Was it? I wondered. Because I could hardly breath being this close to him. And not because of how tightly he was forcing me to hold on, but because being this close to Casa was like walking into a room where all the air had been sucked out of. Because Casa, and his beautiful dirty mouth, had stolen the air from it.

Casa was a dangerous man. Not just to the people he chose to cut down for the love and loyalty of his club, but to my heart. It should be frightening; to be this close to someone so dangerous, yet I was not afraid of him. He made me feel alive in the most beautiful way, making my skin prickle with excitement every time he spoke. Or worse, when he touched me.

Because with Casa, there was never an innocent touch.

“Gonna have to say the magic words, H,” Casa said with a chuckle.

“Magic words?” I asked, pulling my face away from his back to peer round and up into his face. “What magic words?”

He tutted. “They wouldn’t be magic if everyone knew them, H”

Well then how will I…” An idea came to me and I laughed. “Final call for Mars?” I asked hesitantly.

“There you go,” he said with another chuckle. I felt his stomach muscles move under my grip as he laughed which sent a delicious shiver straight to my core, my nipples hardening even more.

“You know that’s a ridiculous password, right?” I smirked.

“Magic words,” he corrected.

He smirked back. “Told you, girl, you’re from Mars or some shit because there ain’t nothing normal about you, or this situation.”

And the way he looked at me, made it clear that this was all new to him too. For a split second, his façade fell away and his gaze spoke more truths than I’d ever been told in my lifetime. I blinked and it was gone.

“Gonna ride now, H.” He winked. “You good?”

I nodded because with Casa, I was more than good. I pressed my face against his back and squeezed him close as he pulled out of the parking lot and the world passed us by in a blur.

Liz’s Review~To Crown a Beast~by R. Scarlett

“Tomorrow, they were going back to hell.”

To Crown a Beast is the final installment of the Blackest Gold Series. This paranormal series delivers an unforgettable romance with complex characters and a fantastical world where the pull between darkness and light becomes life or death.

“But, behind closed doors, he was hers.”

When we last saw Tensley and Molly, they were in the realm of the high court and Tensley’s heart was ripped out. Without his heart, the beast overcomes, and even his precious Molly cannot break through. Tensley is forced to rule as King and Molly will try anything to win his love once again.

“I love you. I don’t care if it’s forbidden…”

As Molly tries to keep her baby safe, finish school, and stand in for her husband as the leader of the Scorpios, Molly discovers the hard truth that life without Tensley by her side offers no life at all. As Tensley faces the battle of his life, the stakes are high for Molly and her King to find love once again.

“You have well and truly tamed the beast. Forever.”

Told in mostly Molly’s POV, To Crown a Beast offers a beautiful and raw conclusion to this explosive series. The world that Ms. Scarlett has created is complex, and the visuals that she evokes with her text are exceptional and will leave you breathless. I struggled with the separation between Molly and Tensley in this book, and my heart was bursting with anxiety watching them break down. Molly’s transformation from the first book in the series to the last is quite remarkable and the way in which the plot comes full circle is sure to please fans of Tensley and Molly. The supporting characters enhance the plot significantly, and I was so glad to see all of the pieces of this mystical puzzle come together.

Overall, I highly recommend the Blackest Gold Series to any and all paranormal romance fans. Tensley and Molly started their journey as adversaries and ended up discovering an eternal love that can break down any barrier that stands in their way. I will miss Tensley and Molly, and I look forward to reading the next great creation by R. Scarlett.

Liz’s Review~TRUST~ by Kylie Scott

“Bullets were permanent. Everything else was temporary.”

Trust is a standalone contemporary young adult romance with two beautiful broken people who find strength beyond the tragedy of life’s circumstances.

“I was going to die, here, tonight, in the Drop Stop in my fucking pajamas. This was it.”

Edie is a teenager stocking up goodies at the local convenience store for a fun filled night with her best friend when in just a single moment, her life is changed forever. The store is overtaken by a robber and tragedy strikes. Throughout the chaos of the moment, Edie is saved by a troubled team named John. When the sounds of sirens and the blood are cleared away, Edie and John are left broken.

“It’s okay to be afraid, Edie.
You just can’t let it stop you from doing anything.”

John has a reputation for dealing drugs and raising hell in his school. When Edie transfers from her posh private school to the local high school, she runs into her savior John. Even though the horrors of the robbery have passed, John feels the need to protect her again. This time protection means keeping her far away from him. And yet, despite his best efforts, John and Edie can’t seem to stay away from each other. After surviving such a horrific event, they are drawn to each other. Edie struggles with a low self-esteem and abandonment issues, and now she has post traumatic stress disorder. John is trying desperately to break away from his tainted past and start again. As they find peace in together, friendship blossoms and eventually transforms into something so much more.

“I couldn’t get close enough, no matter how I tried. Eyes hazy and lips wet, he kissed me slow and sweet. It seemed endless, as necessary to life as breathing.”

Told in Edie’s POV, Trust is a beautiful young romance with action and light steam. I found the relationship between Edie and John to be raw and full of inspiration. The evolution of their romance is slowly explored as both are learning and growing together. The secondary characters enhance the plot as they offer support to John and Edie. The stakes are high for both of them to overcome their past, their differences, and find happiness together.

Overall, Trust is an absolute must read for YA Romance fans. I have long been a fan of Ms. Scott’s work, and John and Edie are quite a beautiful pair. If you are looking for a beautiful friends to lovers romance who overcome tragedy together, then this is the summer read for you!
