Liz’s Review~Captivated by Bethany-Kris

“Life. Love. Forever.”

Captivated is a non-stop action mafia romance with smoking hot passion and tender romance. Joe Rossie is a highly respected Chicago hitman for the mob. When he is called to New York City to assist in a special project for a New York crime family, he meets the beautiful mafia princess Liliana Marcello and he is completely captivated by her. Liliana is a professional ballet dancer who is no stranger to the idiosyncrasies of the life of a crime family. Although she has been focused on her career and tried to stay away from love, Liliana is drawn to Joe and the two form an instant connection. When passion transforms into deep love, Liliana begins to trust Joe with her heart. Joe feels an authentic connection to Liliana and yet, he knows that when she finds out the truth about why he is in Chicago, he might lose her forever.

“Joe didn’t relent the second his mouth was back on her pussy. He was the starving man, and she was the fucking feast spread out before him.”

“You want me to pet that pussy?”

Told in dual POV, Captivated is packed with action, suspense, and intrigue. The characters are complex and the plot takes off like a race car on a NASCAR track. In other words, you better buckle up because the plot is full of twists and turns that will make you catch your breath and stop your heart. The connection between Joe and Liliana is explored thoroughly as each moment seamlessly flows into the next. The dirty talking dialogue delivered by Joe is sure to leave any reader swooning and begging for more! The passion and romance between the two are smoking hot and I could not turn the page fast enough to see what would happen next.
Overall, I highly recommend Captivated to readers who enjoy action, romance, passion, and good old-fashioned mafia fun! With an alpha hero and his beautiful dancer, this stand-alone romance will melt your kindle and your heart. This is my first Bethany-Kris read and I can guarantee it will not be my last. I am officially hooked and cannot wait for my next Bethany-Kris read.

It’s a hot summer morning and I’m already running late.

I’m no one’s white knight, but when I see a girl in trouble, I have to help.

I didn’t know it would be Aubrey Dorado, the girl I swore was off-limits.

Now she’s under my skin and I can’t get her out of my head.

So, I did the worst thing possible and hired her to work in my gym.

Lusting after my new employee breaks my number one rule.

But each day she tempts me with her sweet personality and clever mind.

I’ve been burned by love before.

Romance is a risk I can’t afford.

But how much longer can I resist the attraction simmering between us?

I don’t walk my neighbor’s dog often, but when I do, of course, he knocks me off my feet.

Even better? The one to come to my rescue has to be my swoony self-defense teacher, Sullivan “Sully” Wallace.

I’m so broke that when he offers me a job, I jump at it.

Now I’m spending way too much time with my untouchable crush.

Worse, he makes it clear he has no romantic interest in me.

And just when I think he’s changed his mind, the biggest mistake of my life returns to ruin everything.

A shadow meets the light …

When someone needs to disappear, the Chicago mob calls on Joe Rossi. A man who can move without a sound, and kill without a word, they don’t call him the Shadow for nothing.

This time, it’s a New York crime family in need of his skills, but it takes one glimpse of her to make him agree to the job.

Liliana Marcello is every inch a principessa della mafia. Her life has taught her to be wary of strangers, yet her ballet career contradicts everything by putting her on display.

It’s a man with a dark smile and a constantly changing demeanor that makes her feel safe again, but it’s the unknown that holds her back.

It takes one look …
One dance …
One word …
One smile to captivate a man.

And one second to kill a woman because of it, too.

Not all monsters hide in the shadows.
How are you supposed to see them coming?

Liliana made a face. “You know, I probably shouldn’t.”

“Ah, dancer.”

She shrugged. “Everything needs to be exactly as they want it.”

“As long as one of the things they want isn’t for you to starve yourself, or work yourself dead then … whatever makes you happy, Tesoro.”

“Some girls do.”

“Starve themselves down to nothing but sticks in the hopes of being noticed, or whatever the case may be. Their brains and mind get so sick from it all that they don’t even realize how much they need help. It’s sad, really. Scary. Once, I might have been one of those girls, too. Not so much anymore.”

Joe glanced down at the glass of whiskey he had poured, and twirled it a bit making the ice inside click against crystal. “Can’t say that’s a bad thing, though.”

“No, growth is … good.”

“It can be.”

Joe kept his gaze on the whiskey, and Liliana suddenly decided to be a little bold. They weren’t outside where anyone could see, or where her sister was right there to watch and make her feel nervous. There was no stumbling over her words, or feeling skittish.

Really, Joe didn’t make her anything but comfortable.

And a little hot sometimes.

Crossing the distance between them, Liliana came to stand right in front of Joe. It was only then that he finally glanced up from the glass in his hands to give her one of his slow, easy grins. The kind that made her stomach do that weird clenching thing-like butterflies for big girls.

“Hey,” she whispered.

Joe tipped his head to the side a bit. “Hey.”

“Thanks for helping me today.”

“Don’t mention it.”

“Lucky you were there to help me, really.”

Joe quirked a brow high. “Yeah, lucky.”

Before Liliana could over think her next move, and while she was still feeling that bit of boldness in her heart, she stood on her tiptoes, and kissed Joe. It was a fast kiss-nothing too spectacular, and certainly not lingering. Just a sweet press of her lips against his, and then she was pulling away again.

As fast as it had happened, it was over.

Then, she waited.

For him, that was.

Joe’s gaze darted to hers, and she swore she saw a flash of heat behind his eyes. Without ever looking away from her, he set that glass of whiskey to the wet bar, grabbed her waist with a firm grip, and brought her even closer. She didn’t even get the chance to take a breath before he kissed her.

His kiss was not like hers.

Deeper, harder, and hungrier. A teasing stroke of his tongue against the seam of her lips, demanding she open up to him, and let him in. She couldn’t even help herself but to part her lips, and taste him.

Joe pulled her closer still until her chest was molded against his, and she found it hard to take in a decent breath. And only then did he pull away. His hand came up to cup her cheek, and his thumb stroked her cheekbone with a soft touch.

“I mean, if you’re going to kiss me,” he murmured as he pulled away, “then at least really kiss me, Liliana.”

She laughed breathlessly. “I wanted to see …”

“I don’t know.”

“Did you see whatever it was?” he asked.

Liliana grinned widely. “I did.”

“Would you like to go out with me sometime, Joe?”

ARC/LOYDA’S REVIEW ~ Disgrace by Brittainy C. Cherry

“Once you zoom in, you realize we are all similar in so many ways. We all bleed red, and even monster’s hearts can break.”

Grace Harris has always been the obedient one; always living to pleased others except what she desired.  With her parents being the town’s preachers she grow up trying to always be a good example for others.  After her husband’s betrayal; she found herself tired of pleasing everyone.

Jackson Emery has always lived with the town looking down on him and judging him; he was the town’s black sheep and no one wanted anything to do with him or his father after the bad boy reputation he had. However; no one ever took the time to really get to know him and really see how broken he was until her.

“We were perfect opposites for the perfect storm, and she was asking me to be her next flaw. To be her greatest mistake.”

At first I was a little annoyed by Grace and her weakness of letting people walk all over her until she finally started standing up for herself.  Jackson was one of the main reasons of her change and for that I loved him so deeply.  Their relationship became one that slowly changed both of them for the good.  I loved how it wasn’t an insta-love type of relationship but a convenience and slowly it became everything.  I think my favorite part of this story is how Jackson and Grace would leave each other a book recommendation for each to read and it kind of reminded of one of my favorite book “Worlds in Deep Blue”.  I always found books were the hero and heroine love reading some of my favorites.

“He wasn’t mine and I wasn’t his but that night, we were something”

Overall; I really enjoyed this story.  Even though it didn’t have the deep ugly cry feels I was hoping for I still found myself liking both main characters and the story itself.  However; I could have been ok without the extra loving and forgiveness at the end. I know I know I might have an ugly black heart and just don’t forgive very easily haha.  Some characters I just found I would have never forgive them specially after the things they did.

“When you were taught your whole life to hate a stranger, it was humbling when you realized you’d wasted energy hating something that wasn’t even real.”

Disgrace is a story about forgiveness, finding your true self and moving forward after bad things happen in life. Is about love and family and second chances.  Readers who enjoy these type of stories will find this book appealing.

ARC/LOYDA’S REVIEW~ Ashes of the Sun By A. Meredith Walters

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Type: Book 1 of 2 from The Gathering of the Sun duet
POV: First Person – Dual

This review can also be found on GOODREADS.

“I won’t save you. But I’ll help you save yourself.”

teaser ashes of the sun_Fotor.jpg6-27-18

Sara Bishop was raised by her mother at The Gathering since eight years old.  She remembers a bit of what life was before the Gathering but so many years living this life of what she can and can’t do; it make it hard for Sara to see the true light.  Pastor Carter is the leader and he has a plan for his followers.  They all must prepared for the awakening.

“Perhaps he wasn’t a wolf amongst the sheep. Because I found myself liking him.  Cautiously. Warily. And when he smiled, I smiled back.”

Bastian Scott is conflicted; he only ever wanted to helped his brother so when he had to make a decision to stay with him he didn’t think twice about it.  However; once inside the gathering he knew he must do anything to get out of that place no matter what.  He never imagined to feel something towards Sara.

“Maybe one day you’ll figure out that lying to yourself is almost worse than lying to someone else.”

I felt the love connection could have been stronger between this two but I still liked it a lot.  The story is told from dual point of view; I found I enjoyed Bastian’s point of view much better.   He wanted to save his brother and Sara too; but he felt powerless at the same time.  I loved his words though and how he acted in every situation.

“The world isn’t all bad, Sara. It really isn’t. There’s so much good. So much beauty. And you’re missing all of it,” he said softly.”

The last twenty percent of the book I felt like I couldn’t breathe.  The panic and excitement was so much, I literally felt like I was in one of those dreams where someone is chasing you and you are trying to run as fast as you can hahaha.  Sara and Bastian are bound to save the brother and desperate to get free and the events happening at the end of the book will leave you breathless.

I am really looking forward to see what is next for these characters in the conclusion.  Readers who enjoy religious stories will find this book appealing.
