About Speed

Because BB Easton had so much fun writing her bestselling, award-winning memoir, 44 CHAPTERS ABOUT 4 MEN, she decided to give each of her four men his own steamy standalone! SPEED is the second book in the 44 Chapters spin-off series—a gritty, taboo love triangle overflowing with dark humor and tangible teen angst. It is based on a true story.

After her possessive, psychopathic, rage-fueled ex, Knight, joins the Marines, sixteen-year-old BB is left trying, and failing, to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart. It isn’t until she meets Harley James—an easy-going, tattooed mechanic with a face as angelic as his habits are sinful—that she learns how to live again. How to laugh again. But will she learn to love again?

Over Knight’s dead body.

Exclusive Excerpt

When I woke up on my sixteenth birthday, I didn’t leap out of bed to go get my driver’s license. I wasn’t thinking about the appointment I had to buy my first car that afternoon—a car that I’d been saving for since the day I turned fifteen and was legally able to work. I didn’t give two shits about going to the mall, or opening presents, or eating a fucking piece of fucking cake. All I wanted for my birthday was to sleep through it, because whenever I was awake, so was my gnawing, soul-crushing pain. I could feel it chewing through the lining of my stomach, devouring my once bubbly personality, sucking the energy from my bones like marrow, swallowing my will to live. Being eaten alive hurt. Being awake hurt. Being asleep didn’t.

I reluctantly opened my eyes and glanced over at the nightstand. The red numbers on the clock announced that I’d slept past noon again. The blueberry muffin sitting next to it with a candle shoved haphazardly in the top told me that my mom must have come in and tried to wake me up. My wide-open blinds—which were letting in an obscene amount of summer sun—let me know that she’d tried more than once. And that little white pill and glass of water on my nightstand? Well those only pissed me off.

I sat up and squinted at the assorted bullshit on the table until I spotted my pack of Camel Lights. Swinging my spindly legs over the edge of the mattress, I reached past the food and water, opting for poison instead. I lit a cigarette and waited for that comforting, calming first inhalation to do its thing, but even smoking had become joyless. Just like everything else, I was going through the motions.

Hand to mouth.

Inhale.

Exhale.

Repeat.

I ashed my cigarette in an empty Altoids tin on the nightstand and stared at the pill my mother had left for me—the tiny white hope that had turned out to be just another disappointment. I picked it up and inspected it. If it hadn’t had the word PROZAC stamped on the side of it I would have assumed they’d just been giving me Tic Tacs.

That shit did nothing. Nothing but mute the vibrant colors of my world to a dirty, dull gray. Instead of my feelings being a violent riot of bitter, angry crimsons, churning, crashing ceruleans, and blinking, cautionary yellows, my inner world was now as gray as the cloud of smoke that hung four feet above the floor and three feet below the ceiling in my bedroom. As gray as my skin, where it draped between my ribs and puddled in the hollows of my cheeks and eye sockets.

As gray as the fading knight tattoo on the inside of my wedding ring finger.

I threw the glorified breath mint across the room and listened to the plink, plink, plink sound it made as it bounced off the wall, onto my “desk”—which was just two filing cabinets and an old door that my mom had scrounged up at Goodwill and spray painted black—and landed in a heap of shiny army-green nylon on the floor.

My chest felt as if someone had come up behind me and yanked the laces on an invisible corset. Tears stabbed at the corners of my eyes as images began flashing, unbidden, behind them. Images of a skinhead standing behind me at my locker, sliding an army-green flight jacket up my arms and over my shoulders to warm my perma-chilled skin. Images of his smile when he turned me around to admire the fit. I’d never seen him smile before. Not like that. Making him do it again soon became my reason for getting out of bed every morning.

Now what reason did I have? Knight was gone. All I had left was his stupid fucking jacket.

T3 - Drunk dial.jpg teaser

Rana Saloomi; grew up believing she wasn’t pretty and often looking like a tomboy.  Living with a beautiful mother that didn’t care about her really affected the way she looked at herself.  After her mother run away with another man; she rebel against her father and got in a lot of trouble.  Not only did she have gotten in trouble but she made a lot of mistakes that scar her for life.
Landon Roderick used to have it all and one truth changed his life forever.  He moved from Michigan to California searching for answers he never really got.  Instead he made bad choices; he grew up to be smoking hot but with his tatted body and piercing he was a total bad boy.  Landon was putting his life together and making his business grows until he got a call that brought his past back and new choices he had to make.

Rana had the biggest crush on Landon since little.  They lived together until her parents disappeared; leaving everything behind and so she left Landon.  However; things were not as it seemed she always believed Landon had forgotten about her, so she resented him for it.  One drunken night she looked him up and dials him.

“I’d lived for so many years feeling alone and scared. For the first time in my life, I felt truly safe.”

T2 - Drunk Dial.jpg teaser

“It’s funny how the things that we once looked at as tragic are exactly what needed to happen, in retrospect.”

Landon and Rana reconnect after that silly phone call.  Rana had made so many mistakes that she invested her time working as a dancer at a restaurant and never let any man in to do more heart breaking damage.  Landon was a player he always wanted a connection but he hadn’t found the right person.  The long conversations made these two connect and each day that passed they become more and more attractive to one another.

I really liked this story a lot.  Landon was so sweet and understanding; their first date over the phone was absolutely amazing I seriously loved it.  Rana was a hilarious character because without even thinking she would make Landon laugh and I felt that they were perfect for each other.  The side characters were likable specially Lilith; she was a smart and funny little girl who Rana cared for a lot and I absolutely adored their times together.  Rana’s father was unique and special, he was supportive and a loving father to her.

Overall I really enjoyed this story.  I was hooked from page one, I grin and laugh so much and even had teary eyes on one special scene. Readers who enjoy second chance romance will find this book appealing.

Jade has increasingly less to say about herself as time goes on, other than the fact she is an author, but she’s happy with this fact.

Living in imaginary realities and having a legitimate excuse for it is really all she’s ever wanted.

Jade is as dirty as you’d expect from her novels, and talking smut makes her smile.

She lives in the Herefordshire countryside with a couple of hounds and a guy who’s able to cope with her inherent weirdness.

She has a red living room, decorated with far more zebra print than most people could bear and fights a constant battle with her addiction to Coca-Cola.

CC’s ARC Review ~ Thousands (Dollar, #4) by Pepper Winters

4.5 Stars!

description

Thousands opens without interruption in the continuing timeline of Elder Prest and Pimlico. After losing control, Elder believes it’s safest for Pim to remain at a distance but when Pim makes the decision to do so, the situation forces Elder to acknowledge what he’s known. At this point, the plot line shifts to a more introspective examination into what drives Elder’s behavior and need for a certain structure. While revenge and protecting his family has been a priority for Elder, there is much more behind his reasons of feeling guilt and being indebted.

“She trusted me to keep her safe. This was me honouring that trust even while she begged me to break it.”

Despite her past, Pim’s fortitude is ever present and now that her mind and body continue to heal, she is no longer content in settling for the inconsistences of Elder’s words and actions. As she pushes for more on a physical and emotional level, Elder reacts by distancing himself but seeing Pim’s courage and ability to trust is the impetus to give more of himself.

“But now I was awake and ready to feel everything. And those scraps and stars weren’t enough anymore. I wanted planets. I wanted galaxies. I wanted his heart.”

description

Upon returning to her home country, Pim must face a longstanding conflict and when she does, another layer of healing seems to elevate Pim to a healthier place. Feeling fortified to a degree, Pim is willing to do whatever it takes to prove her love for Elder. In this moment, Elder is pushed to his limits as Pim wants all of Elder and she isn’t about to relinquish her desire for the sake of playing it safe.

“Standing over her, cock hard, heart fast, mind a mess, I growled. “I’ll fuck you. I’ll fuck you until you can’t stand to be fucked anymore. And then I’ll fuck you again. And again.”

What transpires in Thousands is an interesting push-pull between Elder and Pim. For one, the sexual tension is palpable, as both characters want each other so badly that it drips from the pages. Secondly, there are layers of long-standing emotions that reveal much more about Elder and Pim individually and as a couple. As Pim’s healing continues on multiple levels, Pim proves that she is a worthy partner to Elder, and at times, takes the lead while embracing her fears. Elder’s conflicts remain difficult to assess but when Pim pierces through his final layer of armor, he unleashes a physical and emotional side that incredibly rewarding and panty melting.

Told in dual POV, getting in the mind of Elder and Pim is vital to understanding their motivations. There are times when Elder’s resistance is infuriating yet knowing his rationale adds to his appeal and reinforces his need to protect. While both characters made progressive strides, Pim embraced her new role with tenacity to show just how much of a survivor she actually is. Not knowing when Elder’s past will be put to rest, he and Pim are prepared to fight for what they have despite the consequence.

In this series, Pepper Winters successfully creates a vivid world with a complex plot and multi-dimensional characters. With themes of redemption, healing, trust and love, Thousands offers a story where vulnerabilities become strengths. I highly recommend Thousands, and with one book remaining in the series, I look forward to reading just how it all ends!
